SYI Career Advisement

Your sophomore year sets the tone for the rest of your time at Lehman and you will make some important and exciting decisions. Perhaps the most significant decision you will make is declaring your academic area of study. Your SYI Career Advisor will work with sophomore students to explore academic and career interests, discover internship opportunities, and will help you as you embark on the process of declaring your major.

When and how often should I meet with my SYI Career Advisor?

You should meet with your SYI Career Advisor at least twice a semester beginning in your freshman year. Your career advisor can provide you with a number of valuable and beneficial resources that can enhance your learning experience at Lehman and prepare you for success in your chosen field.

What can I expect on my first visit to the Career Services office?

A friendly receptionist will greet and inquire about the purpose of your visit. The receptionist will schedule an appointment for you to meet with Diane Machado and help you register with SYMPLICITY (Career Services online database). SYMPLICITY is a student on-line career management tool where students can review current job opportunities, internships, volunteer opportunities, post resumes, RSVP for workshops and events and much more!

Is there a limit to the number of appointments I can make with my SYI Career Advisor?

No. There is no limit to the number of appointments. Your SYI Career Advisor is here to help you achieve academic and career success!

What are the SYI Career Advisor Office Hours?

Diane Machado is available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

How can my SYI Career Advisor help me?

Your SYI Career Advisor will sit down with you one-on-one to answer any career related questions you may have and assist you in the following areas:

  • Deciding on a major (utilizing career assessments such as FOCUS 2)
  • Resume and cover letter assistance
  • Internships and volunteer opportunities
  • Professional development programs
  • Mentoring programs
  • Career related workshops
  • One-on-one career counseling
  • Career Events on and off campus
