About the Special Counsel to the President

Welcome to the office of the Special Counsel to the President for Legal Affairs and Labor Relations. The office serves as a resource in Lehman College’s mission to serve the Bronx, New York, and surrounding region as an intellectual, economic, and cultural center.

The Special Counsel provides advice on a wide variety of legal, labor, policy, and administrative matters to the President of Lehman College, other Lehman college officials, offices and departments. The Special Counsel is the College’s Records Access Officer, Ethics Officer and also carries out the function of secretary to both the College Committee on Faculty Personnel and Budget, and the Lehman College Senate. Lehman College is a constituent College of the City University of New York (CUNY). Consequently, the Special Counsel serves as liaison to several of CUNY’s offices, namely the office of the General Counsel and Senior Vice Chancellor for Legal Affairs; the University’s office of Human Resources Management; and the office of Labor Relations.

Mission Statement

The Office of the Special Counsel to the President for Legal Affairs and Labor Relations endeavors to support the dynamic educational environment of the College by providing timely reliable advice, advocacy and other services concerning a range of legal, labor relations, and governance matters. We are committed to advancing the College’s mission in a manner that is in accord with the highest standards of integrity personified by the College’s namesake, Herbert H. Lehman.
