Dean of Students
John Holloway joined the staff of the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs in 2004 as associate dean and was appointed Dean of Students in April 2011. Previously, he was executive director of Student Life at the University of California in Santa Cruz and also had served as associate dean of student judicial services at the University of South Florida.
At Lehman, Dean Holloway was initially appointed to provide leadership and supervision for four of the Office’s programs: the Counseling Center, Student Health Center, Child Care Center, and Student Disability Services. He has since played an instrumental role in expanding the Office’s student support operations.
Under his guidance, new initiatives, including Wellness Education and Promotion, the Urban Male Leadership Program, Student Housing, Veterans and Military Affairs, Community Outreach and New Student Programs, and Peer Education, have played a vital role in offering Lehman students a well-rounded college experience, while also providing strong mentorship and leadership-building opportunities.
Programs such as Community Outreach and Peer Education also have helped to foster students’ desire to contribute to local and global communities through volunteer efforts. Some efforts have taken students—and sometimes Dean Holloway—to places as distant as the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, and New Orleans.
Dean Holloway holds an undergraduate degree in political economics and society from SUNY College at Old Westbury and a master’s degree in counseling from Montclair State University. He has completed work toward his doctorate at the University of California in Santa Barbara.
