JCT Professor to Screen Film at International Festival
April 22, 2010
Professor Susan Watson Turner (Journalism, Communication, and Theatre) will screen her film The Mattress Hustle at the 2010 Black International Cinema Festival in Berlin. Sponsored by Fountainhead Tanz Theatre, the festival will take place from May 4-8.
The Mattress Hustle is a short film about a young couple who leave their entry-level jobs to begin professional careers. As they attempt to jumpstart their careers, their love life suffers and comedy ensues as they hustle to find places to be together and new avenues for their talents.
The film also will be shown at the Black Harvest International Festival of Film and Video at the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago, from August 6 through September 2. The festival puts a spotlight on Chicago filmmakers and highlights adventurous new work from around the nation and the world.
Professor Turner began her theatrical career at the Karamu Theatre in Cleveland. For several years, she was general manager and then producing director for the Negro Ensemble Company. She has directed a feature-length film, Blinded by Love, and the short film The Journey of Seven Guitars.
