Jazz Band to Celebrate Music of Count Basie Dec. 6

The Lehman College Big Band will give a free concert on Wednesday, December 6, at 12:30 p.m. in the Music Building's Hearth Room. Distinguished Lecturer and noted tubist Bob Stewart will lead the band in "Basically Basie," a program celebrating the music of the legendary Count Basie, along with other great twentieth-century jazz composers and arrangers.

Tenor saxophonist Aaron Sachs, who has performed with Benny Goodman and Buddy Rich, will join the band for a special performance.

Professor Stewart has been a professional tuba player for over 35 years and has performed and recorded with artists like Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus, McCoy Tyner, and Wynton Marsalis. He has also recorded three of his own albums for JMT and Postcard Records.
