Research, Innovation, and Creativity at CUNY: A new CUNY Website for Faculty and Students spacer Convocation
Wednesday, September 12, 11:00 a.m., Lovinger Theater
Lehman's annual Convocation takes place next week. This first major event of the academic year is intended to welcome our students to the community and introduce them to the academic traditions of Lehman College. Please encourage your students to attend the Convocation. A reception for students, faculty, and staff will immediately follow in the Faculty Dining Room.
  • The event begins with a formal procession of the faculty in academic regalia. The faculty will assemble in the East Dining Room in the music building beginning at 9:30 a.m.

  • If you wish to participate, and so that we may ensure adequate seating for the campus community, please confirm your attendance to: provost.office@lehman.cuny.edu by Monday, September 10, 2018 with the following information:

SUM was developed to advance the goals of Connected CUNY, and features scholarship, research and creative work by CUNY faculty and students, distilled for a wide range of audiences--elected officials, the media, prospective students, and faculty. Submissions will be considered based on news value and relevance to a general audience.

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum spacer Free Admission to the Guggenheim Museum
Through the generous support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is offering free admission (plus one guest) to Lehman College ID cardholders.
Lehman is one of five CUNY institutions that was recently selected to participate in this pilot program, which is open to all Lehman faculty, staff, and students for the next two years. Present your valid ID at the admissions and membership desk for your complimentary ticket(s).

Student Success Workshop
While new faculty were learning all about Lehman, department chairs gathered for a daylong student success workshop. This event marked the beginning of an ongoing exploration of ways the entire campus community can use data and technology in support of our students, mission and values. The SCPS Workplace ESL Program
The School of Continuing and Professional Studies recently established an innovative workplace ESL program at Bronx-based GAL Manufacturing Company. The first cohort of 27 students concluded in late July; over half of these students are continuing in the program, with others enrolling in August and September. Read more about it here.

Faculty and Staff Publications and Achievements
Music Professor Penny Prince had an original song selected for the Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty masterclass at the Dramatists Guild Conference in late July. Mariah Escobar, a former student, sang "Soleil is Her Name," from Dr. Prince’s 2013 original musical, Rumpelstiltskin.

Music Professor David Claman was awarded a Fulbright-Nehru grant to teach and study in India for 9 months in 2018-19. He is affiliated with The University of Delhi and teaching a course on Western Music Theory, as well as studying North Indian (Hindustani) classical music and composing original music.
