Phyllis (’71) and Ivan Seidenberg (’72)
Distinguished Alumnus Award
Phyllis (’71) and Ivan Seidenberg (’72) will receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award for their work with the Seidenberg Family Foundation. Born in the Bronx, Phyllis Seidenberg graduated from Hunter College in 1967, and received her master’s degree from Lehman College in 1971. She worked as an elementary school teacher at P.S. 1 in the Bronx. Her philanthropic work includes raising funds for the Meals on Wheels, New York-Presbyterian Hospital’s Celiac Disease Center, and numerous local charities.
Ivan Seidenberg is the former chairman and CEO of Verizon Communications, Inc. He was born in the Bronx and served in Vietnam. Ivan Seidenberg earned his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Lehman College in 1972 and his master’s in Business Administration in 1980 from Pace University. He began his career as a cable splicer for New York Telephone over 40 years ago, before rising through the ranks of the various companies that became Verizon in 2000. By the time he retired in 2011, he had transformed Verizon into a global telecommunications industry leader. Ivan Seidenberg currently serves on the boards of BlackRock, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, New York Genome Center, and is an advisory partner at Perella Weinberg Partners LP.
