The School of Education upholds the Lehman College commitments to access, excellence and multicultural understanding through academic departments that are dedicated to the development of dispositions and practices that affirm diversity, creativity, critical thinking, integrity and technological expertise of 21st century tools and skills. The School of Education is comprised of three departments: Counseling, Leadership, Literacy and Special Education; Early Childhood and Childhood Education; and Middle and High School Education, offering more than twenty-five nationally recognized and/or New York State-approved teacher, counselor, and educational leader certification and advanced certificate programs. In addition, the School of Education hosts two institutes and one center that are essential to the community outreach of Lehman College: The Literacy Institute, The Bronx Institute and The Center for School/College Collaboratives.

The School of Education was re-accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) in 2021, while its Counselor Education program was re-accredited by Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) in 2019.
