Model City Council

Model City CouncilThe Model New York City Council Project is designed to enhance the public service learning and leadership skills of high school students in the College Now program. Students learn about the New York City Council, representation, and the legislative process from faculty mentors during an intensive training program that consists of several Saturday sessions.

At the conclusion of the training component, participants convene in the City Council Chamber for a Model City Council session and join CUNY in hosting a reception and celebration at City Hall for Council Members.

Model New York City Council Project is only offered during the Fall semester. Students who wish to participate in Model City Council in the Fall 2013 semester must:

  • be enrolled in, or have completed, a College Now course or workshop;
  • be scheduled to graduate from high school in June 2014;
  • be available for the mandatory training and event schedule.
