Professor Graciela M. Castex
Dr. Castex joined the Lehman College Social Work faculty in 1988. She received an MSW from Virginia Commonwealth University and a doctorate from Teacher’s College, Columbia University, specializing in ethnicity and ethnic identity. Dr. Castex has published a number of articles focusing on diversity issues, including Hispanic/Latino identity and Soviet refugees as well as the effects of poverty at the end of life, immigrant children, the psychology of stereotyping, messages communicated by map projections, and trauma and mass violence. She was a member of the team of social work faculty involved in the development and accreditation of the Lehman College MSW program. In addition to her teaching and service at the college and with professional organizations, Dr. Castex has worked extensively with many immigrant and refugee populations and as a social worker in a variety of settings.
