Dr. Mary Tesoro, DNS, RN-BC, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nursing at Lehman College in Bronx, New York. Dr. Tesoro’s education includes: an AAS in Nursing from Queensborough Community College, a BA in Biology from Lehman College, an MS in Nursing from Lehman College, and a Doctorate in Nursing Science from the CUNY Graduate Center. Her teaching focus at Lehman in is in the undergraduate program, both the generic and the RN to BS programs. Dr. Tesoro’s research focus is in nurses’ clinical decision making and patient safety. Dr. Tesoro developed and tested a cognitive model, the Developing Nurses’ Thinking (DNT) model, in her doctoral work. The DNT model is used in the undergraduate curriculum to help students to develop effective thinking habits to help solve clinical problems. The testing of the DNT model continues, and it has been successfully translated and tested in nursing students in Brazil.
