From the Chair, Stefan Becker
Welcome to Geography, Geology, and Environmental Science at Lehman College of the City University of New York. This is an exciting time to study either of these subjects. Today it has become more important than ever before to learn about our changing planet. How will climate change affect us? What do we know about natural hazards such as hurricanes, thunderstorms, floods, and earthquakes? How can we contribute to conserve our environment and reduce its pollution? Where and why do we experience increases in economic inequalities between people, regions, and countries? The study of these and many other issues and concerns are fundamental within our programs.
There is no better place to study in the New York region than Lehman College if you are interested in these issues. Our faculty is highly motivated and excited and is looking forward to engaging you in a learning process that will make you see the world with different eyes. You will develop knowledge of the fields as well as analytical problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Degrees in Environmental, Geographic, and Geological Sciences will prepare you for a broad range of careers in the private sector, government, and non-governmental organizations, as well as graduate study in the geosciences and allied disciplines.
