Student Certification Checklist
New Certification Requirement for Coursework or Training in Harassment, Bullying and Discrimination Prevention and Intervention
Effective July 1, 2013, all applicants for Certification are required to complete six clock hours of coursework or training in accordance with Article 2 Sections 10-18 of the Education Law. This training is available only from a provider approved by the New York State Education Department.
Upon completion of the workshop, the provider will give you a Certification of Completion.
- Send a copy of the Certificate of Completion to the Office of Teaching Initiatives, RM 5N 89 Washington Ave, Albany, NY 12334. Photocopies are acceptable.
- Some providers of the workshop transmit the Certificate of Completion to the Office of Teaching Initiatives electronically.
- In the case of persons completing State registered programs leading to Certification after October 1, 2013, no Certification of Completion will be awarded because the training is a required component of the programs. No additional training is required. All program completers prior to October 1, 2013 must complete this training before a certificate will be issued.
Please note that some providers will be offering training that exceeds the six-hour minimum. Also, fees vary from provider to provider.
Approved Providers List: There are no approved providers at this time. Please check the NYSED website at www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert or http://www.lehman.cuny.edu/academics/education/index.php weekly.
PLEASE NOTE: For students graduating from a teacher education program, applying and paying for certification prior to July 1, 2013, the coursework or training will not be required.
