Sixth Graders Program Robots to Apply STEM Principles
Lehman College alumnus and current science teacher, David Schrager, was interviewed in NY1 News about his sixth grade class in Brooklyn taking lessons from robots! Watch the video and read the article about how this cutting edge technology is helping students.
David Schrager was appointed to his teaching position at MS 136 in Brooklyn after graduating from Lehman College with a Masters in Science Education in May of 2014. He feels very fortunate to be teaching in the school, where many of his students are English language learners and have been living in the US for less than one year. While David is very impressed at how hard the students work at learning both English and science, he is faced with his own challenges - trying to learn some Arabic and Chinese in addition to improving Spanish so that he can better serve his students. David enrolled in Lehman College upon acceptance to the New York City Teaching Residents Program in 2012.
Lehman Alumna Provides a Model Site for UPK Initiative
Jessica Anderson graduated from the Lehman College Early Childhood Education Program in May 2009 and is owner, director, and head teacher at Kiderific Nursery School. In 2010, Kiderific obtained a contract with the City of New York to provide Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) classes and in 2014 expanded to provide a full day UPK program. School of Education Student from Poster to Profession!
After a full year of teaching 4th grade, School of Education Alumna Krystal Mejia returned to Lehman College to pick up her 2013 undergraduate diploma and finally saw a poster of her edTPA video work decorating the walls of Carman Hall! Admitttedly picking up her diploma a little later than planned, Krystal recalled her first year of teaching as both rewarding and challenging. Candidate to Candidate: Reflections on Taking edTPA
Roshawna Cooper, a graduate of Lehman College in Childhood Education and participant in our School of Education Spring 2013 edTPA pilot, is in a series of videos now posted on the AACTE edTPA webste. Along with three other teacher candidates, Roshawna was recruited to talk about her experience in completing the edTPA and how it has impacted her teaching practices. The four field test participants to talk about major takeaways, biggest challenges and decision points and to offer advice to other candidates for successfully completing the edTPA process.
