MATH UP Early College Summer Institute 2011
The first cohort of the MATH-UP program is immersed in activities related to their impending internships beginning in the fall. This summer, in addition to taking two graduate courses, the pre-service teachers are participating in several events pertaining to the program. Many will be part of an Early College Summer Institute taking place on the Lehman College campus to help encourage students’ math learning during the summer break. They will participate as small group teachers facilitating grade- and student-level appropriate math activities for 3rd - 5th grade students from the South Bronx elementary schools that are partners in the MATH-UP program. In addition, they will meet with parents and guardians of the students at an informational Parent Night to take place prior to the program and begin to learn appropriate professional interactions with families and communities.
