McGruderKevin McGruder, an adjunct assistant professor in AAAS, has been appointed mentorship coordinator in Lehman's Urban Male Leadership program. Lehman's UMLP offers offers an array of resources that provide students with activities which include mentorship, civic engagement," the Educational Summit/Leadership Conference, and academic intervention. Faculty Recognition Award: Bertrade Banoum. Professor Banoum carries a heavy burden of teaching and service in the Department of African and African American Studies where she has been superlatively combining service with learning for the past twelve years. Under her directorship, the Women’s Studies program at Lehman remains a vibrant center for the exchange of ideas, a rewarding opportunity for students to learn more about themselves and their society, and a friendly place to hang out. Professor Banoum, who is on leave this fall, had worked tirelessly to organize a full slate of events, including scholarly presentations by Lehman faculty, a panel discussion on Haitian relief efforts, and a lecture on Asian-Pacific heritage.
